Congregations

LHOS enhances and supports congregations by providing adult and family education opportunities at the congregational level. LHOS staff and students participate in adult forums, family camps, and other teaching opportunities.

LHOS offers education to congregations in person, online, and soon in a DVD format. The goal is to extend the reach of these educational opportunities to rural and geographically isolated congregations of the region.

Congregation Visits

Dr. Chris Croghan, Director of LHOS, visits many congregations annually to teach and to preach.  He regularly educates lay and clergy at summer family camps in the region.  To request a presentation, contact him at chris.croghan@augie.edu.

Additionally, LHOS graduate students are making significant contributions to the leadership needs in area congregations by preaching, teaching, and organizing small group ministries, providing home bound ministries, serving as hospital chaplains, and leading Bible studies.

Parenting in Faith

As part of our mission to offer educational opportunities to congregations, LHOS is partnering with Peace Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls and Sanford Health Systems.  This initiative, Parenting in Faith, delivers reliable, high quality content which weaves together child development learning and a faith component. Three series of four classes each are available for distribution.

The first series, The Balancing Act, is geared toward parenting and faith issues regarding children, birth through elementary school.  The second series of classes, What Is A Parent To Do?, is geared toward middle school age children and the parenting and faith issues that emerge in those ages. The third series, Surviving and Thriving In The High School Years, addresses the equally challenging parenting and faith issues which arise in the high school years.  For more information on how to offer these classes in your congregation, click here.

"Proclamation on the Plains" Conference

Registration is open for the second annual "Proclamation on the Plains" Conference in January, 2012. The goal of this conference is to offer both ministry professionals and lay people with insightful, relevant theological conversation. At this second conference, Dr. Diane Jacobson will discuss the Psalms.

Other Communities We Serve

Anchored in the Lutheran faith and grounded in the foundation of Lutheran education, the Luther House of Study also serves the communities of future ministry professionals and current ministry professionals. Each area of service is anchored by the establishment of an endowed Luther scholar chair at Augustana College.
